SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A 0.5k fun run is raising money to feed older adults in Lane County.
Senior & Disability Services (S&DS), a division of the Lane Council of Governments, is thrilled to announce registration is open for the 6th annual “A Race for the Rest of Us” — a 0.5k fun run (yes, 0.5k!) — happening Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 12 p.m. at PublicHouse in Springfield, Oregon.

This lighthearted event supports an important cause: raising funds for the Senior Meals Program at S&DS. The program helps adults aged 60 and older throughout Lane County stay healthy and independent by providing nutritious meals and opportunities for social connection. Through Meals on Wheels and Café 60 sites, S&DS delivers not just meals, but also friendly visits, safety checks, and information to other community-based services.
The “race” covers a whopping 0.5 kilometers—that’s about one-third of a mile, or roughly 546 yards. For perspective: it's about twice the distance a good golfer might drive a ball off the tee. No training required—just enthusiasm and a sense of humor!
Every registered participant receives:
- A commemorative T-shirt
- A coveted finisher’s medal (because yes, you earned it!)
- A race sticker to show off and your support for seniors
Grab your friends, family, or coworkers and walk, run, or roll your way through the most fun (and shortest) race of the summer!
Sponsorship Opportunities are still available at the $250, $500, and $1,000 levels. Email Josh Pugh at jpugh [at] lcog-or.gov (jpugh[at]lcog-or[dot]gov) or call 541-682-1459 if you’re interested and see document below.
